RESEARCH
My main research interest is computer semiotics. The idea is to view computer
systems as media that convey signs from designers to users, and between users.
I have written books and papers on the subject, and has tried to use the theories in practical multimedia projects.
Prototype. The system can display database information as diagrams and as spoken and written text. The database is based on linguistic case-theory and the example is from process control.
Other research interests are: multimedia, HCI, fieldwork in organizations, mobile computing, CSCW, semantics, and semiotic theory.

In recent years I have become interested in self-organizing systems, i.e. how form and structure emerge and persist. I have applied these theories to WWW and linguistics.
At present I work with spatial computing and computer games. I am currently engaged in developing the notion of habitat.
